The 2004 - 2009 Combination Meter fails to illuminate. You cannot read your speed, gas gauge, odometer or trip meter, or gear selection. In some cases, the vehicle will not shut off when you press the 'Stop' button. The problem may be intermittent at first, but over time the problem will get worse.
Sometimes you can get the display to work again temporarily by disconnecting and reconnecting the 12v battery. This is at best a temporary fix.
... press and hold the 'Stop' button for about 10 seconds. There is no usually need to disconnect the 12v battery.
I have successfully repaired a lot of these display over the last 6 years, and do so for some of Phoenix's major Toyota dealerships. We replace the components that have caused your display to fail, and repair solder joints that are showing evidence of imminent failure.
Your vehicle mileage has NOT continued to accumulate while the display was not working. So, delaying this repair means your odometer reading will be low, which may lead to further issues at a later date. Your mileage will be displayed again once this repair is completed.
To get to and repair your display, I have to remove your entire dash top, which requires a lot of disassembly of your dashboard. We repair the display, then put everything back together again.
Please allow that this repair takes between 90 minutes and 2 hours to complete.
One cautionary note: I have to remove three of the four grey air vents. The plastic used, combine with the design of these parts makes them very prone to crack and break. The most vulnerable vent is the one to the right of the steering wheel that houses the "PARK" button. While I have learned good techniques for removing these parts, they do sometimes crack or break. We do not warranty any of these parts for any breakage that occurs as part of the disassembly or repair process. I have, however, found a source for good after market vents and I can sell and install parts to restore the appearance and function of your vents.
We warranty this repair for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first.
